  • Actuarial Sciences (BS)

    The overarching goal of the BS in Actuarial Sciences program is to prepare graduates for careers as actuaries or risk managers.

  • Africana Studies (BA)

  • Applied Mathematics (BS)

    The B.S. in Applied Mathematics allows students to gain depth in mathematics as well as one of twenty-one areas of application in science and engineering such as Bioinformatics, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Physics and Statistics.

  • Applied Music (BM)

    The Bachelor of Music (B.M.) in Applied Music is for students intent on a career as a professional musician or music professor within higher education. The applied music degree track is designed to develop the highest level of musicianship on a primary instrument and to promote both scholarship and professionalism in the field. 

  • Applied Physics (BS)

    Applied physics is about quantum mechanics, electrodynamics, computational and experimental methods. Students will also develop skills in classical mechanics, electrodynamics, optics, thermodynamics, and quantum mechanics.

  • Art (BA)

    The B.A. provides an opportunity for students to develop highly personal portfolios that can incorporate art and design with work from other disciplines with very marketable results. 

  • Art Conservation (BA)

    Connecting the arts, humanities and sciences, an undergraduate degree in art conservation prepares students for graduate-level study in the preservation of material culture, historic preservation, museum studies, library science and other related fields. 

  • Art History (BA)

    Art History offers students critical insights into the ways art and cultural expression have developed over time and across continents. We sharpen students’ visual skills, develop students’ writing abilities, and spark students’ imaginations with images, objects, and buildings that have been worshipped, stirred revolutions, delighted, or outraged.

  • Asian Studies (BA)

  • Astronomy (BA)

    For almost a century, the University of Delaware’s Physics and Astronomy program has provided a world class undergraduate physics education that meets the goals of STEM education.

  • Biochemistry (BS)

    Biochemistry involves the study of the chemical transformations and the intricate concert of processes that take place in living organisms. Through coursework and research in our department, our biochemistry students use a chemical lens to explore some of the most fundamental biological processes such as metabolism, protein synthesis and manipulation, large and small molecule synthesis for medicinal or therapeutic applications, human health, and beyond.  

  • Biological Sciences (BA or BS)

    Designed in the spirit of a liberal arts degree; students develop an understanding of biology while having flexibility to pursue their other interests including complementary minors/majors.

  • Biological Sciences Education (BA)

    Science teachers collaborate with university personnel to provide an innovative science education program that culminates in a capstone student teaching experience. 

  • Chemistry (BS/BA)

    Chemists play a central role in addressing many of our world’s most pressing challenges, and the career prospects for well-trained chemical professionals continue to be excellent. Positions in chemically and biochemically aligned industries rank among the most well-compensated for college graduates and these sectors are projected to grow in size and scope for the foreseeable future.   

  • Chemistry Education (BA)

    Students studying chemistry education engage in observation, analysis, synthesis and experimentation, breaking natural substances down into their component parts, replicating in the laboratory chemical processes that occur in the physical world and creating new substances to fulfill specific needs.   

  • Chinese Education (BA)

    Language teaching is an area of critical need across the country and Chinese is in high demand for careers in politics, government service and international business. Consequently, Chinese is increasing in popularity in secondary schools— it is currently the second most widely taught language (after Spanish) in dual-language immersion programs in the nation.

  • Chinese Studies (BA)

    Learning Chinese will allow students to experience a culture with a history of 5000 years and learn a language spoken by 1.36 billion people.  China has been playing an increasingly important and influential role globally. The ability to use Chinese and to employ knowledge about Chinese culture is highly valued by the business and professional communities. 

  • Cognitive Science (BS)

    Cognitive science is the interdisciplinary study of the mind as an information processor. It is a relatively new discipline that arose in the mid-20th century from a convergence of conceptual revolutions primarily in psychology, computer science and linguistics. 

  • Communication (BA)

    Communication offers a strong theory- and research-based  program coupled with skills training. Available concentrations within the major include Media Communication, Interpersonal Communication, and Public Relations.

  • Comparative Literature (BA)

    Comparative literature brings an international and intercultural perspective to bear on the study of literary themes, forms, movements and relations, as well as the interrelations between different national literatures and other disciplines.

  • Criminal Justice (BA)

    The criminal justice major offers a liberal arts approach to crime, law and justice that integrates theory, research and legal analysis. Available concentration in Law and Society.

  • English (BA)

    Courses focus on a broad range of topics including literature and poetry, writing studies, gender studies, environmental studies, disability studies, creative non-fiction, and film studies.

  • Fashion Design and Product Innovation (BS)

    Producing great designers is only part of the fashion design program at the University of Delaware. In addition to becoming proficient in conceptualization, drawing and rendering, flat pattern development, draping and product development, students explore and address the challenges in the dynamic fashion industry.

    The Fine Arts Program combines creative research with hands-on experimentation. Students can experience printmaking, painting, ceramics, sculpture, video, photography, animation and drawing.

    Our program will provide you with a thorough foundation in the French language and the fundamentals of teaching and pairs intensive coursework with hands-on student teaching opportunities to prepare the next generation of World Language teachers. 

  • French Studies (BA)

    What does a French Major study?  Of course, you will acquire the skills needed to effectively communicate with French and Francophone speakers. But what will you communicate? Our department offers engaging courses in French and Francophone literature, culture, civilization, theater, business and cinema.

  • Game Studies and eSports (BA)

    The Bachelor of Arts in Game Studies and eSports prepares majors for excellence in a broad range of careers in the video game industry and related fields. Today's video game developers and publishers aren't just looking for qualified programmers and designers, they need well-balanced experts in cultural awareness, marketing, management, education, communication, law and health.

    Do you love German language and culture? Make your passion your profession! From creating lesson plans to managing the classroom, you’ll receive a rigorous course of instruction in teaching German in grades K-12, an area of critical need in Delaware and across the country.

    Multilingualism and intercultural competence are essential credentials for leadership today in diverse fields. Our graduates choose a variety of career paths: some become teachers, translators or interpreters while others are employed in publishing, broadcasting, government, international travel, financial services or other areas of international business.

    The Global Studies major enables students to succeed in an increasingly globalized society by exposing them to the political and cultural foundations of global issues.

  • Jazz and Improvisation (BM)

    The Bachelor of Music (B.M.) in Jazz and Improvisation is for musicians pursuing careers in jazz, studio recording, and performance in contemporary idioms (popular, world, experimental). The core classes in jazz and improvisation provide innovative learning opportunities covering jazz harmony, theory and improvisation, history and analysis and more.

  • Latin American & Iberian Studies (BA)

  • Latin Education (BA)

    Fascinated with the ancient world and how it shaped our modern one? Make your passion your profession with the Latin Education major! From creating lesson plans to managing the classroom, you’ll receive a rigorous course of instruction in teaching Latin in grades K-12. Language Teaching is an area of critical need in Delaware and across the country.

  • Liberal Studies (BA)

    The BALS program may be used to increase the breadth of study in the arts, humanities, social sciences and sciences over what would be possible with a traditional major and electives. 

  • Linguistics (BA)

    Linguists are scientists who study language. Language is one of the most complex cognitive tasks that humans engage in, yet it is used effortlessly and subconsciously and is acquired by infants with no formal instruction. 

  • Mathematics (BA or BS)

    Students pursuing a B.S. in Mathematics acquire depth in several key areas of mathematics, suitable as preparation for graduate study and immediate technically oriented careers in business and government. Students interested in acquiring breadth in the liberal arts and less depth in mathematics can pursue the B.A. in Mathematics.

  • Mathematics Education (BA or BS)

    Both the B.A. and B.S. degree programs in mathematics education lead to teacher certification; the B.S. degree may be more suitable for students who have taken or plan to take many credits in math and science, while the B.A. degree is ideal for students who are interested in achieving breadth in the liberal arts. 

  • Mathematics and Data Science (BS)

    This interdisciplinary program provides fundamental training in mathematics, data science, computer science, and statistics to start a career in the field.

  • Mathematics and Economics (BS)

    The Mathematics and Economics program trains students to model uncertainty, with a focus on the financial services sector and the economy.

  • Music (BA)

    The School of Music offers both Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Music degrees. The Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Music provides students an opportunity to synthesize intensive study of music with a liberal arts education applicable to a variety of career interests. There is a Music Industry Studies Concentration available.

  • Music Composition (BM)

    The Bachelor of Music in Composition emphasizes instruction in musical composition, improvisation and multimedia creative activities. Many students in this major continue on to graduate studies in composition at well-known institutions with the goal of working in higher education or to compose vocationally.

  • Music Education (BM)

    The Bachelor of Music (B.M.) in Music Education is directed to those who intend to become professional musicians and music educators. The B.M. in Music Education offers both instrumental and choral/general tracks, in which students gain classroom experience through extensive, field-based teaching opportunities. 

  • Music History and Literature (BM)

    The Bachelor of Music in Music History and Literature provides a rigorous core of courses in the history and literature of Western music and offers opportunities for deeper study in related fields such as music theory, literature, anthropology, philosophy, history and foreign languages.

  • Music Theory (BM)

    Students completing a Bachelor of Music in Music Theory undergo a rigorous program that prepares them to continue on to graduate study in the field. In addition to working closely with the theory faculty, students receive mentoring and are encouraged to attend and present at regional and national conferences.

  • Neuroscience (BS)

    Discover the brain's mysteries with a BS in Neuroscience at the University of Delaware. Explore interdisciplinary studies, gain hands-on research experience, and prepare for diverse careers in neuroscience, medicine, and beyond.

  • Philosophy (BA)

    Plato coined the word 'philosopher' to refer to a 'lover of wisdom'. As a discipline, philosophy seeks to understand the world and our relation to it by examining and scrutinizing the foundational assumptions that lie behind our everyday thinking. 

  • Physics (BA/BS)

    Our graduates join a variety of physical science and engineering graduate programs, enter medical school, find employment in industry and teach in high schools all over the country.

  • Physics Education (BA)

    The Secondary Science Education major at the University of Delaware offers students interested in teaching middle or high school science the opportunity to study their scientific area of interest—like physics—while also learning about and practicing the best teaching methods.

  • Political Science (BA)

    Through political science you will learn about national and international politics and policymakers. You will also learn valuable skills in critical thought, oral and written communication and quantitative reasoning—the very skills most useful to employers in fields like law, business and journalism, not just politics.

  • Psychology (BA)

    Our undergraduates learn about basic principles of human and animal behavior, the scientific methods used to derive and refine those principles and appropriate ways to apply such knowledge. Because of the interdisciplinary nature of psychology, our major prepares students with transferrable skills applicable to a wide variety of careers.

  • Psychology Education (BA)

    Explore the Psychology Education BA at the University of Delaware. Prepare for a career in teaching social studies while gaining expertise in psychology, history, and education. Earn certification to teach middle and high school with hands-on experience and rigorous coursework.

  • Russian Studies (BA)

    Students of the UD Russian Studies Program will not only work with the beautiful language but will also have the opportunity through a variety of courses to learn about this unique, fascinating culture and its long history. They do this through Russia's world-renowned literature and through other media such as film, the Internet, political essays and the arts.

  • Sociology (BA)

    The sociology major offers a liberal arts curriculum that integrates theory and methods with courses focusing on contemporary social issues and problems. Available concentrations include Emergency and Environmental Management, Health and Health Services, Law and Society and Social Welfare.

  • Spanish Education (BA)

    Our program will provide you with a thorough foundation in the Spanish language and the fundamentals of teaching and pairs intensive coursework with hands-on student teaching opportunities to prepare the next generation of World Language teachers. 

  • Spanish Studies (BA)

    Spanish is the second-most popular language in the world, spoken by more than 400 million people. A major in Spanish Studies enables students to communicate with people of different linguistic and cultural backgrounds and helps foster understanding between cultures in our global society.

  • Theatre Studies (BA)

    The Theatre Studies degree is a general degree allowing the student great flexibility. The theatre student can steer their education in four different directions.  Two of these are for further study in theatre or outside of theatre.  The other two directions are for students that want to use the degree to begin their careers.   

  • Three Languages (BA)

    A multilingual brain is more agile and better able to solve problems and conflicts. Language learners demonstrate superior cognitive performance throughout their lives. Our graduates choose a variety of career paths in teaching, entertainment and media, government, travel, financial services or international business.

  • Visual Communications (BFA)

    The VC degree builds on our two-year Core curriculum through a series of courses intended to inspire inquiry in the art of communication design and to impart applicable skills in various design methodologies.

  • Women and Gender Studies (BA)

    Women and Gender Studies majors explore the past and current status of women around the world and the formation of gender and its intersections with other relations of power such as sexuality, race, class, nationality, religion, ability and age.
