In May 2020, as part of I Heart UD Giving Day, the University of Delaware launched the Blue Hen Strong Fund. The fund provides direct and immediate help to students who are experiencing financial burdens and other challenges as a result of the pandemic.
The fund will provide:
- success grants to cover tuition
- access to technology and advancements to online learning tools
- career readiness support and so much more
On I Heart UD Giving Day, more than 1,200 donors contributed more than $188,000 to jumpstart the fund. But the need is great and fundraising for the Blue Hen Strong Fund continues to be a priority. With this University-wide effort to help students the most, partners across campus will be crucial in helping promote the fund and inspire supporters to give to it.

- a laptop loaner program
- mentoring opportunities through the Each One Reach One Mentoring Program, the Alumni & Friends Mentoring Program and the Graduate Mentoring Program
- critical professional experiences through the Student Internship Grant program

FRONTLINE FUNDRAISERS:
Launched in 2020, the Blue Hen Strong Fund directly supports the ever-evolving, critical needs of UD students, keeping them strong, empowered and flexible with necessary resources, experiences and opportunities throughout their time at the University.
The Fund will live on in perpetuity to support the most timely needs of UD students throughout the year and beyond. To date, the fund has provided secure housing and tuition support; created a laptop loan program; enhanced mentoring opportunities; and provide additional grants for student internships.
A gift of any amount to the fund will help UD students in the most need.
