Volunteer Shout-Outs - February 2026

The Office of Development and Alumni Relations relies on a team of dedicated Blue Hen volunteers to strengthen the connections between alumni, students and the University through a variety of programs and events. Volunteers' many contributions include planning and helping to lead regional, affinity and reunion events, offering mentorship and professional development opportunities to students and serving as proud ambassadors of UD.

Here, we regularly spotlight volunteers that enhance the UD experience for students and alumni.

"We volunteer as Blue Hen Regional Ambassadors as one of many ways to give back and stay connected with the people and places that shaped us in so many ways."

Double Dels Stephanie and Alex Sawyer have been dedicated volunteers with the Boston Blue Hen Regional Network for several years, serving as Regional Blue Hen Ambassadors. In this role, they help plan, promote, and attend UD events in the Boston area, creating meaningful opportunities for alumni to stay connected to UD and to each other.

Their Blue Hen story began freshman year as neighbors in George Read, where both their love for UD and for each other blossomed. Since then, Steph and Alex have continued to carry that spirit with them, all the way to Boston.

Let’s hear from Steph & Alex:

Why We Give Back: We volunteer as Blue Hen Regional Ambassadors as one of many ways to give back and stay connected with the people and places that shaped us in so many ways.

Alex grew up as a Blue Hen, his father, a tenured UD professor since Alex was a 1-year-old. In addition, they were long-time football season ticket holders and Alex participated in many UD clubs and summer camps.

UD set us up for success while students, as we built our life and found our friends, and for when we moved to Boston.

Fun Fact: We recently adopted our first dog who we named Dewey in honor of our favorite beach!
