VI. Initiation of the Student Conduct Process

  1. Any person, including the Dean of Students or their delegate, may initiate a report concerning a student by filing a report with Community Standards & Conflict Resolution or the Graduate College (based on jurisdiction, as described above). The exception to this standard is any report involving sexual misconduct or discriminatory harassment, which will be reported to the Office of Equity and Inclusion, the Title IX Coordinator or a deputy Title IX Coordinator.
  2. If the report reasonably suggests that a violation of a University policy has occurred, and the student conduct process is determined to be most appropriate, the student shall receive notice that a conduct case has been created.
  3. This notice will be sent to the student's University email account and will include:
    1. The specific policy(s) the student is alleged to have violated;
    2. The date, time and location of the occurrence and the name of the reporting party (as appropriate);
    3. A brief summary of the incident which precipitated the initiation of the conduct case;
    4. The charged student's rights; and
    5. Information on the student conduct process.
  4. If it is determined the report is best handled via a method other than the formal student conduct process (such as alternative dispute resolution) notice regarding such method will be sent to the student’s University email account. The process, timeline and outcomes reached through alternative methods may be different than those described for formal resolution.
