Exchange programs at UD
The University of Delaware partners with institutions around the world to offer incoming and outbound exchange students the opportunity to pursue a portion of their studies abroad. Interested students should see the following list before submitting an application. If you are an interested inbound exchange student and your home institution is not a current partner with the University of Delaware, it is recommended that you contact your institution’s study abroad office to learn about your options.
The Center for Global Programs & Services is the central unit at UD for facilitating international agreements. UD academic departments and external partners wishing to develop an exchange agreement should visit our international partnerships and agreements webpage for guidance on proposing an exchange program. UD's Exchange Partner Institutions
The University of Delaware has exchange partnerships with a number of institutions/consortia abroad for undergraduate exchange programs:
- Soka University, Japan
- Seinan Gakuin University, Japan
- German American Federation, Germany
- Trans-Atlantic Science Student Exchange Program (TASSEP), Europe
- University of Seoul, South Korea

Inbound Exchange to University of Delaware
This information is specific to international students who plan to attend University of Delaware for a semester or a year as an international exchange student. The University of Delaware partners with a limited number of institutions around the world to offer incoming and outbound exchange students the opportunity to pursue a portion of their studies abroad.
Application Process
To attend as an undergraduate exchange student, a formal exchange agreement must be on file with both UD and a student’s home institution. Students must be nominated by their home institution who is a UD exchange partner institution. Students should check with the exchange coordinator at their home university to ask about the exchange program and nomination process.
Once nominated and selected, students must apply to UD. Applications are reviewed by the UD Undergraduate Admissions Office. View application requirements.
J-1 Visa Requirements
Inbound exchange students at University of Delaware must apply for the J1 visa. For a student to be eligible for a J1 student non-degree, eligibility would need to meet at least one of the following criteria:
- Student is funded by the US government, their home government, or an international organization of which the US is a member
- The program is carried out based on an agreement between the US and a foreign government
- The program is carried out pursuant to written agreement between (i) American and foreign academic institutions; (ii) An American academic institution and a foreign government; or (iii) A state or local government in the United States and a foreign government;
- The student is supported substantially by funding from any source other than personal or family funds; or
The International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) office at CGPS will provide assistance with issuing the DS-2019 form to apply for the J-1 visa and provide support for maintaining the J-1 visa while the inbound exchange student is at UD. Accepted Inbound Exchange Students
As an inbound exchange student at the University of Delaware, you will become part of the UD Global family. The International student and Scholar Services team will serve as your main contact while you are at UD, who will work with many departments and advisors throughout your program.

Outbound Exchange Abroad
The University of Delaware has outbound exchange partnerships with several institutions abroad. The CGPS study abroad team supports the application and enrollment process for UD students participating in exchange programs for study abroad.
