The Ph.D. in math/applied math is a degree involving the extended study of a topic drawn from the research interests of department faculty: Analysis, Discrete Mathematics, Mathematical Medicine & Biology, Numerical Analysis & Scientific Computing, Probability & Stochastic Methods, and Scattering & Inverse Scattering. 

The Winterthur/University of Delaware Program in Art Conservation (WUDPAC) is a graduate-level program jointly sponsored by the University of Delaware and Winterthur Museum. The curriculum is designed to educate and train conservation professionals to carry out the examination, analysis, stabilization and treatment of art and artifacts, speak to general principles of collection care, and have a broad academic background in science and the humanities.

Program Educational Goals:

Knowledge of artistic traditions across a wide diversity of times and places, and also a high level of knowledge in one particular area of study, whether chronological, geographical and/or thematic.

The ability to write about works of art clearly and with appropriate attention to such factors as style, iconography, condition, provenance and reception.

The purpose of the MA in Languages, Literatures and Cultures (MA-LLC) is to provide students with the opportunity for professional growth in the areas of language proficiency, in-depth understanding of literature, civilization and culture as well as research and teaching skills.

The MA in Languages, Literatures, Cultures and Pedagogy degree affords students the opportunity to continue their foreign language study at the graduate level with the option of working toward teacher certification. It is a flexible degree that can provide students with all the courses required for a teaching certificate in French, Spanish, Chinese ​or German, except for student teaching.

Linguistics doctoral students research social phenomena, focusing on interpersonal, intergroup, motivation, and social cognitive processes. Working closely with faculty mentors, they are trained in methodologies including social neuroscience, psychophysiological, experimental, and big data techniques.

Students pursuing the M.A. in linguistics and cognitive science may specialize in cognitive science, linguistics, or an individualized program. Programs of study include theoretical linguistics, psycholinguistics, and applied linguistics and English as a second language (ESL).

We offer a graduate program leading to the Ph.D. or M.S. degree in physics. Nearly all Ph.D. students starting in the program receive funding support as graduate teaching assistants (TAs). More senior Ph.D. students are usually supported from research grants as graduate research assistants (RAs). TA or RA support is not usually available for Masters students.

The Department of Political Science and International Relations currently offers a Ph.D. (Doctor of Philosophy) degree, which consists of coursework during the first six semesters followed by dissertation research and writing. Students earn an M.A. as part of their Ph.D. studies. Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) at the time of matriculation to be eligible to apply to the Ph.D. program. The department does not currently offer a terminal M.A. degree.
