In Memoriam: Clifford Keil
April 22, 2025 | Written by UDaily staffClifford Keil, associate professor of entomology and applied ecology, has passed away. Keil came to UD as an assistant professor in the Department of Entomology and Applied Ecology (now the Department of Entomology and Wildlife Ecology) in 1983 and was promoted to associate professor in 1990. He served as a study abroad adviser and was faculty adviser for Alpha Zeta. -

UD graduate course takes a bite into Delaware mosquito genes
April 17, 2025 | Written by Katie PeikesMolecular Ecology, (ENWC 867) is a graduate level course offered by entomology and wildlife ecology professor Vincenzo Ellis. It's a hands-on course that helps students learn how to study animal population genetics and deduce what genes can tell us about a population. The two students in the course in 2023 studied mosquitoes with a rare opportunity to learn genetics hands-on at the UD DNA Sequencing and Genotyping Center. -
Revitalizing downtown Laurel
April 16, 2025 | Written by Adam ThomasLaurel, Delaware is a town of approximately 4,000 people with a rich history. thanks to efforts by Delaware Sea Grant and Delaware Cooperative Extension, the downtown area of Laurel is being revitalized, piece by piece, bringing renewed businesses, partnerships and a civic sense of pride back to the community. The plan was imagined with sustainability in mind, which helped attract funding to conduct an environmental assessment.

In 1869, the University of Delaware (UD) College of Agriculture and Natural Resources was established as the state’s land-grant university with a mission consisting of three elements: teaching, research and “extension”. Cooperative Extension fulfills the third part of this mission: bringing knowledge to the people of Delaware. Today, we offer university knowledge, research and resources — just for you!

Covering 350 acres on the main campus, it's a hands-on learning hub for students and faculty, exploring animals, crops, wetlands, and greenhouses.
