Volunteer Shout-Outs - February 2024

Volunteer Shout-Outs - March 2024

The Office of Development and Alumni Relations relies on a team of dedicated Blue Hen volunteers to strengthen the connections between alumni, students and the University through a variety of programs and events. Volunteers' many contributions include planning and helping to lead regional, affinity and reunion events, offering mentorship and professional development opportunities to students and serving as proud ambassadors of UD.

Here, we regularly spotlight volunteers that enhance the UD experience for students and alumni.

North Carolina Blue Hen Network

This month’s shout-out is for an entire group of volunteers!

This year brings a fresh start and new engagement to the North Carolina Blue Hen Network, especially in Raleigh-Durham and Charlotte.

Leading the charge in Raleigh-Durham are ambassadors Melanie Mitchell, BSPA05, and Scott Lazarczyk, EG86.

In Charlotte, five enthusiastic Blue Hens have stepped up as ambassadors including James Lacy, BE89, Matthew Lupoli, BE21, Ryan Yohn, BE20, Ian MacFadyen, BE16, and Liza MacFadyen, BE15. Fun fact: The MacFadyens were married by Sheryl Kline, Deputy Dean of Alfred Lerner College, in September 2021.

On February 17, a group of 27 alumni and friends gathered in Greensboro to cheer on the Fightin’ Blue Hens as they defeated North Carolina A&T 62-54. The Charlotte crew is planning several events in 2024 including a Carolina Panthers game, River Jam at the Whitewater Center, and Happy Hour at the Wooden Robot Brewery, whose bar manager is a UD alumnus.

Hear what alumni are saying following the February 17 lunch and basketball game, hosted by the Raleigh-Durham Network:

“This was the first time in many years I recall an event in the Triad Area. We had a great time meeting fellow Blue Hens and had a great time at both lunch and the game. I would highly recommend to a friend or fellow alumni…”

“FUN meeting alumni from all generations, felt better connected to my university, want to network even more to help my fellow alumni.”
