4+1 BS/MS Programs

What is a 4+1 BS/MS?

In a 4+1 BS/MS program you can complete both the Bachelor of Science degree and Master of Science degree in Medical Sciences in a total of five years of full-time study. Graduate-level courses taken during the undergraduate years count toward both the bachelor’s and the master’s degrees.

Programs offered:

Only current UD undergraduates enrolled in an MMSC major can apply to the 4+1 program. The application deadline is May 15 of the student’s sophomore year. The admission fee will be waived.

  • A cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher
  • Written statement of goals and objectives (the personal statement) that clearly explains how admission to the program will facilitate your professional objectives.
  • Two letters of recommendation, one of which must be from an MMSC faculty member who is familiar with the applicant.
  • Submission of a Graduate Course Completion Form as part of the application process.
  • The GRE is not required.

Students will complete the following courses in junior and senior years:

  • MMSC 603 Research Design (in place of MMSC 375 or STAT 200)
  • MMSC 690 Clinical & Molecular Cell Biology (in place of MMSC 490 or MMSC 390)
    or
    MMSC 691 Human Molecular Genetics (in place of MMSC 491)

The 2023-2024 UD graduate student tuition rate per credit hour is $1,028. Courses taken during the undergraduate phase are subject to undergraduate tuition rates.

Tuition remission, assistantships, and/or stipends are not available in this program. Students can apply for financial aid as applicable.
