Research Interests

I am an earth scientist and geoscience educator who addresses the variation in sedimentary systems from the nanoscale to tectonic scales and relate that variation to processes relevant to the energy industry and well bore cements for plugging and abandonment of depleted oil and gas wells. I integrate modern experimental, quantitative, and qualitative techniques to understand fluid flow and storage in geologic formations and well bore cements. As a geoscience educator my teaching interest is in geological hazards and their impact on human civilizations, earth history, sedimentology and stratigraphy and geophysics. My research in geoscience education includes the integration of goal setting, effective study strategies and metacognition in geoscience courses to enhance student success.
