Students are encouraged to register for the 2025 Summer Session to get ahead or catch up on coursework

The spring semester is half over, so it’s time to think about summer.

Registration is now open for the University of Delaware’s Summer Sessions. Courses are offered in five-, seven-and-a-half- and 10-week sessions, in-person, online or hybrid, allowing students to quickly learn and earn the valuable course content and credits compared with semester-length courses.

The summer is a great time for students to participate in experiential learning and a chance to catch up or get ahead. The shorter sessions can help students focus on a challenging or engaging subject, and the smaller class sizes provide an optimal time for students to network with professors.

“Summer Sessions are beneficial to all of our students,” said George Irvine, associate provost for online learning and innovation. “For example, the flexibility of online courses are suitable for our graduate students who are working professionals or undergraduates who have summer jobs or internships outside of Newark. Transfer and first-year students have the option of taking summer courses before they start their studies at UD in the fall. We also welcome visiting students from other universities to take classes at UD and transfer their credits.”

Students are encouraged to explore UD’s course catalog to find unique courses that pique their interest.

Among the new opportunities this summer, the English department is offering “Taylor Swift as/and Literature,” an innovative Winter Session course that connects a pop icon with centuries-old literary traditions. Lerner College is launching its co-op program, which gives students the chance to work at regional companies while earning course credits. Also, the history department is offering four online courses that have not been offered in previous Summer Sessions, and a course in the History of Games and Gaming is making its debut.

Faculty and advisors are encouraged to discuss Summer Session’s course offerings with students. Summer Session classes begin on June 9 and July 14, 2025.
