Presentations

Rudi Matthee, John and Dorothy Munroe Distinguished Professor of History, presented “Alcohol in the Islamic Middle East,” for the British Iran Society, at the Army and Navy Club, London, Jan. 7, 2025.

Thomas Kaminski, professor of kinesiology and applied physiology in the College of Health Sciences, gave the James L. Thornton Keynote Address at the Eastern Athletic Trainers’ Association meeting in Philadelphia in January. The keynote centered around Kaminski’s 45-plus years of experience as a professor, clinician and scholar, including his ongoing research to reduce concussions in youth soccer players. He also talked about the future of athletic training and ways to move the profession forward. Second-year athletic training master’s student Angelo Sisofo, who leads the EATA Student Leadership Delegation, moderated Kaminski’s lecture.

Trevor A. Dawes, the vice provost for libraries and museums and May Morris University Librarian, was an invited panelist for the inaugural 2025 NISO (National Information Standards Organization) webinar, “State of the Community,” on Jan. 15, 2025. In the session, panelists reflected on the profound transformations that have shaped their community over the last few years, and responded to the impact of the 2024 U.S. presidential election. They explored the evolving landscape of scholarly communication, reviewed the implications of recent policy shifts and considered what lies ahead for their industry. NISO, whose members hail from the publishing, library, and information service providers sectors, is a nonprofit membership organization that identifies, develops, maintains and publishes technical standards to manage information. Dawes is also a member of the Board of Directors of the organization.

Abigail Donovan, professor of art and design, is a 2025 artist-in-residence at Acadia National Park in Bar Harbor, Maine. The five selected artists will lead outreach activities for park visitors and display work in park gallery spaces. Founded in 1993, the program is dedicated to creating new and interesting ways for visitors to experience Acadia through the arts. Since 2023, the program's operational costs have been fully funded by donations from sales proceeds at America’s National Parks (Eastern National) stores throughout the park.
