Celebrating the achievements of women
The University of Delaware will celebrate Women’s History Month in March with a host of events and activities that honor the accomplishments of women. International Women’s Day — which is celebrated on March 8 — also offers an opportunity to reflect on progress made, raise awareness for women’s equality, and celebrate women’s achievements.
Attend UD’s inaugural women’s event series.

Know this: Discover inspiring stories of leadership, resilience and legacy during UD’s inaugural women’s event series. Speakers and panelists include students, pioneering researchers and trailblazing leaders across law, public service, education, law enforcement, healthcare and more.

What: In celebration of Women’s History Month, Student Diversity and Inclusion will give away First Gen: A Memoir by Alejandra Campoverdi and Making Space for Indigenous Feminism by Joyce Green.

Explore an exhibition.
What: Transcendent Resilience: Black Women, Artivism and the Carceral State.
When: Now through Aug. 8, 2025, during Morris Library’s operating hours.
Where: Morris Library’s Information Room.
Know this: The exhibition explores the powerful intersection of art, activism and systemic injustice through the lens of Black women’s lived experiences.
More info: Curated by graduate students from UD’s museum studies program, Transcendent Resilience is a testament to the strength and creativity of Black women navigating systemic challenges. Through this rich, thought-provoking exhibition, visitors will gain insight into the ways Artivism serves as a catalyst for resistance, healing and community-building.
Support a Delaware Sports Hall of Famer and UD alumna.
What: Kristin Mills Caldwell, a Class of 2003 alumna and Delaware Sports Hall of Famer, will be throwing out the first pitch at the Delaware baseball game versus the University of Pennsylvania.
Know this: Caldwell was a three-year letter-winner for the Delaware Women's Basketball team from 2001-2003. A Delaware native, Caldwell was the first high school female basketball player in state history to surpass 2,000 points in a career, scoring 2,131 during her time at Caravel High School. She had an incredible baseball career as well, dating back to her days with Newark National Little League. She pitched for the 1997 Babe Ruth All-Stars and was a member of the first-ever USA baseball women's national team, where she led her team as the winning pitcher in the gold medal game during the inaugural Women's World Cup. Caldwell was inducted into the Delaware Sports Museum and Hall of Fame in 2017, and she currently serves as the head baseball coach at Caravel High School.

Learn about the first Black woman to run for president.
What: “Shirley Chisholm: Unbossed & Unbowed,” an immersive and interactive solo show about the first Black woman to run for president of the United States.
When: Sunday, March 16, 2 p.m.
Where: Wilmington Drama League, 10 West Lea Boulevard, Wilmington, DE 19802
Who: Presented by the University of Delaware Jewish Studies Program, the Halina Wind Preston Holocaust Education Committee and the Jewish Federation of Delaware.

Celebrate the women who inspire and lead in UD Dining.
What: The fourth annual Women’s Empowerment Chef Spotlight Series.
When: March 3-20.
Know this: UD Dining Services is honoring 15 women from UD Dining who inspire through their leadership, culinary talents and dedication to the campus community. The series highlights women chefs, managers and team members who have significantly contributed to making UD Dining a vibrant and welcoming place for students, staff and faculty. From crafting exceptional meals to leading sustainable initiatives, these women are making their mark and creating a lasting impact. Each week, Dining Services will feature stories and interviews with these women, sharing their personal journeys, professional accomplishments and the passion they bring to their work.
