Changes increase bus frequency, reduce waiting times
Transportation Services has implemented changes to the University’s bus routes to increase bus pick-up frequency and reduce waiting times.
Beginning with the start of the spring semester, an additional evening bus has been added to the North/South College Express route between 6 and 10 p.m. This addition increases bus pick-up frequency to every 13 to15 minutes, reducing waiting times 50%.
Starting Saturday, Feb. 8, weekend service will be added to the Apartment Express. This service will operate every Saturday and Sunday from 10:30 a.m.-6 p.m. (normal weekend transportation hours).
Later this semester (when additional drivers can be hired), a bus will be added to the North Central Express route from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Mondays through Fridays, and the route will be changed to include stops at South Campus from the Perkins Student Center stop on Academy Street. This will allow the addition of all South Campus stops to this route and maintain a target pick-up frequency of every 12 minutes during these busy hours,
Also upcoming will be the addition of a bus to the Apartment Express route from 2-7 p.m., resulting in an increase in the bus pick-up frequency, reducing wait times by 50% during the afternoon and evening.
Start dates for these new services will be announced when staffing details are finalized, hopefully near spring break.
Looking ahead, Transportation Services is contracting with a new, and much improved, bus tracking app that will begin this summer and will be fully operational at the beginning of fall semester.
