UD’s Study Abroad Fair will feature information about upcoming study abroad programs

When Ryann Pinter, a junior at the University of Delaware, first reviewed her study abroad itinerary, she knew that the visit to Walkabout Wildlife Sanctuary would be the highlight of her trip to Sydney, Australia.

Pinter, a third-year nursing student, got acquainted with Arnold the Koala and had the opportunity to encounter other Australian wildlife, including emus, kangaroos, wallabies, pythons and wombats. During this visit to the Walkabout Wildlife Sanctuary on the 2025 Winter Session nursing study abroad program, Pinter developed a deeper appreciation for wildlife and conservation efforts and healthcare practices in other cultures.

“The thought of seeing kangaroos, koalas and wallabies in their natural habitat fascinated me,” Pinter noted in her UD Abroad Blog post about her time abroad this Winter Session. “Once we arrived, the experience exceeded all my expectations. Kangaroos were hopping all around us, and we even got to pet them.”

But the excitement did not end there. At the sanctuary, Pinter and her classmates had the opportunity to hold the second-largest snake in Australia, which was followed by an encounter with an 11-month old wombat. Pinter said the wombat even fell asleep in her arms.

“My favorite part of the entire day was seeing all the animals happy and roaming freely in their natural environment,” Pinter wrote. “It left me with a deeper appreciation for wildlife and conservation efforts.”

While Pinter, a nursing student, set off on the three-week nursing study abroad program to develop her knowledge of international healthcare practices, she embraced cultural experiences offered outside the classroom, which left her with a newfound love for Australian wildlife.

UD Study Abroad programs are designed to provide students with international learning experiences, by developing cross-cultural understanding and a global mindset both in and beyond the classroom. By offering over 100 programs in 40 different countries, there is a perfect fit for every student’s needs and interests.

For three weeks, UD nursing students explored healthcare development in Sydney, Australia, on this program led by Professor Sharon Dudley-Brown. During the program, students experience Australia, while comparing and contrasting the United States, Australia and Aboriginal health practices.

The Center for Global Programs and Services (CGPS) invites students to discover their next study abroad destination at the biannual Study Abroad Fair. On Monday, Feb. 24, the Trabant Multipurpose Rooms will transform into a global showcase from 2 to 4 p.m., presenting all upcoming programs for the fall 2025 and winter 2026 terms.

During the event, held this year on National Study Abroad Day, faculty program directors and program partners will be available to answer students’ questions and to share their favorite stories from previous study abroad programs. In addition, UD staff will be present to connect students with upcoming scholarship opportunities and financial resources. While browsing programs, from Argentina to Tunisia, students can enjoy a hot beverage from the always-popular free hot chocolate bar.

Students interested in studying abroad can get all of their questions answered, from how to select a program to how to pay for it, at the Study Abroad Fair on Monday, Feb. 24, from 2 to 4 p.m. in Trabant University Center.
