Blue Hen Bake Off to be judged by Cake Boss Buddy Valastro and Dana Herbert
Get ready, Blue Hens, baking royalty is coming to town!
On Thursday, April 24, Caesar Rodney Dining Hall will host the first ever "Blue Hen Bake Off," a fun dessert-making competition featuring none other than Buddy Valastro, the world-renowned Cake Boss, and Desserts By Dana's Dana Herbert.
UD Dining Services bakers and their talented UD student assistants will compete head-to-head, to create the next signature UD treat. This exciting competition will not only showcase the culinary skills of the Blue Hen community but will also feature Valastro and UD alumnus Herbert, known as “Delaware’s King of Cakes,” as celebrity judges.
Event Schedule:
- Noon-4 p.m.: The competition heats up as chefs and students bring their dessert visions to life. Guests are invited to watch the magic happen and cheer for their favorites.
- 4-5 p.m.: Indulge in the Dessert Tasting, where you can sample each creation and experience the delicious innovation on display.
- 5-5:30 p.m.: The moment of truth! Valastro and Herbert will judge the desserts and crown the ultimate winner, whose creation will become a celebrated dessert across campus.
This is more than a bake-off; it’s a dessert showdown with one of the biggest names in baking. Join us for this exciting event on Thursday April 24, open to all students and members of the UD community. Watch as talented contestants showcase their baking skills, and don’t miss the chance to sample the delicious creations.
Please note that payment is required to enter Caesar Rodney Dining Hall, with accepted forms of payment including meal swipes, credit, debit, flex and dining points.
Public talk
Prior to the Bake Off, Buddy Valastro will be the featured speaker from 2:20 – 3:30 p.m. in 115 Purnell Hall as part of the University of Delaware’s Department of Hospitality’s Paul Wise Speaker Series. All are welcome to attend.
