Faculty experts from three UD departments will examine various aspects of the media and the 2024 election during Democracy in Focus, a panel discussion event on Thursday, Oct. 24, at 7 p.m. in the Trabant Multipurpose Rooms.

Hosted by the Center for Political Communication, the event will be moderated by Dannagal Young, CPC director and professor of communication. Panelists include:

• Erin Cassese, professor in the Department of Political Science and International Relations, who will discuss the role of gender in the campaign.
• Lindsay Hoffman, associate professor in the Department of Communication, who will examine the influence of digital technology and AI on political discourse.
• Joanne Miller, professor in the Department of Political Science and International Relations, who will address the role of fact checking.
• Tim Shaffer, Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) Chair of Civil Discourse in the Biden School of Public Policy and Administration, who will explore issues of civility and incivility.

Young will also discuss the implications for the health of our democracy.
