UD Walktober program wraps with record breaking participation

Faculty, staff, retirees and household members complete 4-week activity challenge

UD’s four-week activity challenge, Walktober, concluded with a record breaking 1,067 participants this season. Faculty, staff, retirees, friends and family members collectively logged 303,866,103 “steps” through activities like walking, cycling, fitness classes, yard work and more. Friendly competition kept teams motivated to move more each day, and a community message board created space for words of encouragement, photos and story sharing.

Here's what some of employees had to say about the impact Walktober had on their wellbeing:

“It was a wonderful experience. I have been more motivated to take time for myself and health. It creates balance and improvement on my time management. I have explored different places where I can walk by the beauty of nature.” ~ Myrna Hernandez, Core Facilities Central Support

“Last year I struggled to get [points] on a consistent basis, but this year I had a coworker who was also participating that helped inspire me to meet the challenge head on.  We would walk together on days when she was in the office, which helped me from having to walk miles at night to get my step totals." ~ Craig Prettyman, UDIT

Congratulations to everyone who met their personal activity goals. That energy and enthusiasm made this program a success.
