In Memoriam: Conor Neylon

Campus community remembers athletic finance major known for his sense of humor and infectious laugh

Conor Patrick Neylon, a finance major at the University of Delaware’s Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics, died on June 30, 2024. He was 21.

Known affectionately as “Connie” or “Con-man” among friends and family, Mr. Neylon was born and raised in Wilmington, Delaware. He graduated from Salesianum School in 2021 and will receive his bachelor of science degree in finance posthumously from UD.

Members of the University community shared their reflections:

Adam Cantley, dean of students and assistant vice president for student support and advocacy: “We are deeply saddened by this tragic loss. Conor was a vibrant presence at UD, known for his infectious energy and positive attitude. He touched the lives of many and will be greatly missed. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Conor’s family and friends.”

At UD, Mr. Neylon was an active member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity, where he made lasting friendships and contributed significantly to the fraternity's community, according to his family members. His family described Mr. Neylon as “selfless” and “a connector,” someone who was “always willing to help.”

In addition to his academic achievements, Mr. Neylon was known for his love of sports, particularly basketball and golf. He was a passionate supporter of Philadelphia sports teams and University of North Carolina basketball. His friends remember him for his competitive spirit and his ability to make others laugh.

He is survived by his parents, William and Stacy; brother, Casey; grandparents, Ann Marie Casey, Lawrence Hahn (Kathy), and Thomas Neylon. Mr. Neylon is also remembered by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the Neylon family requests donations be made to the Community Collaboration of Delaware (CCD). Contributions can be sent to CCD, 621 Delaware Street, New Castle, DE 19720.
