Classes beginning at or after 10 a.m. will convene. University offices will open at 10 a.m., as well.
Following widespread snowfall in the region, there is a potential for icy conditions on roadways and untreated surfaces due to unseasonably cold overnight temperatures. For this reason, the University of Delaware’s Newark campus and other UD locations in New Castle County, as well as its Lewes and Dover campuses, will open at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 17. Normal operating schedules will be suspended from 5-10 a.m.; however, essential personnel should report to work as scheduled.
University offices will open at 10 a.m. Instructors of classes scheduled to meet before 10 a.m., should communicate with their course sections, as these sessions may convene virtually or be canceled at the instructor’s discretion.
Non-essential employees who need to adjust their work schedules or work remotely on Wednesday should communicate with their supervisors to make necessary arrangements.
UD Facilities staff will work during the morning to clear campus parking lots and treat sidewalks for snow-covered, wet and/or icy conditions. University administrators will continue to assess the situation throughout the morning Wednesday and will make an announcement, as needed, to communicate any additional operational changes.
Residence Life and Housing staff, and other essential services, will be available to students. Regarding Student Wellbeing, patients with appointments prior to 10 a.m. at Student Health Services and the Center for Counseling and Student Development will be contacted to reschedule.
Dining will operate on the brunch-dinner schedule. Retail locations will be delayed to open at 10 a.m. or the normally scheduled time if that is after 10 a.m. For additional information, visit the Dining Services website at https://udel.campusdish.com/.
Members of the campus community are reminded to use caution and drive carefully. Exercise caution on roadways and walkways that appear wet, as they may be coated in what is commonly referred to as black ice. This is not always visible and makes surfaces extremely slick.
Unless otherwise informed by their administrative staff, the University’s campus in Georgetown will operate on a normal schedule Wednesday.
Schedule updates
- The Carpenter Sports Building; the Morris Library; the Student Centers; the bookstore; and Student Wellbeing at Warner Hall will open at 10 a.m. UDairy Creamery Cafe will open at 10:30 a.m.
Information about any additional closings or schedule changes will be posted on UDaily. Please check there for updates.
Personal safety
Safety is UD’s highest priority. Faculty, staff and students should not put themselves at risk, and employees who expect difficulty traveling should contact their supervisors.
