Community remembers first-year chemical engineering student
Maanavi Bhangi, a first-year student majoring in chemical engineering in the College of Engineering at the University of Delaware, passed away in mid-September 2024.
Ms. Bhangi was originally from Saint Paul, Minnesota, before her family relocated to Wilmington, Delaware.
In her time at the University, Ms. Bhangi was a member of the Blue Hen Ethics and Philosophy Club, Board Game Club, Casual Video Game Club, Cosmetic Chemical Society and Indian Student Association.
Ms. Bhangi was honored by her peers in an on-campus memorial service.
Leah Alexander, junior psychology and neuroscience major: “Maanavi was one of the first residents I met when Hope [Stengel] and I gathered our fifth-floor community at the start of the semester. Though our time together was brief, she made an impression that will stay with me for a lifetime. Even in those early days, she carried a light within her that shone brightly, even if she didn’t always realize it herself. She was quiet, a little shy at first, but there was something about her—a kindness, a positivity—that drew you in immediately…
“Maanavi may have been quiet, but she had a way of leaving an impact, even in the smallest moments. It’s those moments, those little connections, that matter the most. I will forever be grateful for the time we shared, however brief, and for the way she inspired me and those around her.”
Adam Cantley, assistant vice president for student wellbeing, support and advocacy: “Maanavi was a bright and promising student whose time with us was far too brief. We will carry her memory forward in our hearts and our commitment to supporting one another as a UD community.”
