The Institute for Transforming University Education is offering a problem-based learning workshop this January. The workshop will bring visiting faculty from international universities and is available at no cost for UD affiliated instructors.

Problem-based learning (PBL) connects disciplinary knowledge to real-world problems so that the motivation to solve a problem becomes the motivation to learn. Students in a PBL model engage with complex, challenging problems and work collaboratively toward their resolution.

The five-day workshop runs Jan. 6-10 in the Harker ISE Lab, is facilitated by University faculty Philip Duker, Fred Hofstetter, John Jungck, Agnes Ly, Mark Serva and Lydia Timmins, and is available at no cost to UD faculty, graduate students and instructional staff.

Interactive sessions include an introduction to problem-based learning, the student experience in a PBL classroom, focus on problem-writing, designing a course around PBL and integrating AI insights throughout the problem development process, as well as time for questions and small-group discussion.

Registration is required by Dec. 20.
