Bike to Work Day on May 19
May 16, 2023
Event begins at 7:30 a.m. at Mentors' Circle
May is National Bike Month, and Friday, May 19, is Bike to Work Day in Newark and across the nation.
BikeNewark is organizing this year’s Bike to Work Day event in Newark, in partnership with the city of Newark, the University of Delaware, the Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) and the Newark Bike Project. The event will be held from 7:30–8:30 a.m. at Mentors’ Circle on campus.
All participants should register their attendance when they arrive at the event. Bicycle commuters are encouraged to ride safely and with others to attend this free event. There will be “bike train” captains who will lead groups biking to the event, departing at 7:20 a.m. from six locations around Newark.
Speakers will include Pamela Steinebach, DelDOT’s director of planning, and Lou Rossi, dean of UD's Graduate College.
Light breakfast fare will be provided for participants to enjoy at the event. On behalf of the Delaware Bicycle Council, DelDOT will be giving away event T-shirts while they last.
Bike to Work Day is intended to highlight National Bike Week (May 15-19) in Newark, which has been a League of American Bicyclists–designated bronze-level “Bicycle Friendly Community” since 2010.
BikeNewark is a partnership of interested cyclists and organizations working to improve bicycling in Newark, Delaware, and UD is one of seven partner organizations.
