UD Writing Center Seeks Graduate Writing Tutors
July 12, 2023
Students in All Programs Are Invited to Apply: Doctoral Student Preferred
The University of Delaware Writing Center is hiring Graduate Writing Tutors (GWT) from any UD graduate program to provide individual writing support for other graduate students beginning in the fall semester. The role of Graduate Writing Tutor (GWT) is supplemental employment, not a full GA or TA appointment; GWTs work 3-5 hours a week according to their interest and availability. Doctoral students are preferred.
According to the Writing Center, a position as a graduate writing tutor offers graduate students extra experience in writing, teaching, and mentoring. GWTs report gaining a deeper understanding of writing processes, genre, and audience, as well as differences in research and writing across disciplines; these insights strengthen their own research, writing, and teaching practices.
Applications are due by July 28, and can be submitted through UD’s Handshake platform or via email to Writing Center Director Jennifer Follett. Applications should include a cover letter that details program of study, status or progress in the program and experience teaching, experience writing at the graduate level, and how the applicant feels this position will contribute to the applicant's academic and professional goals; a current CV; and one writing sample from a doctoral level course.
