Season finale shares the experiences of performers through music and storytelling

Following its postponement due to the pandemic in 2020, the University of Delaware Master Players Concert Series will present the concert Xiang Gao & Friends: A Collage Concert of Chamber Music and UD Stories in Mitchell Hall at 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 29.

The concert is conceptualized and directed by violinist Xiang Gao, UD Trustees Distinguished Professor of Music and Founding Director of the concert series. The event will be Gao’s first featured performance with this group since he was named one of Musical America’s Top 30 Professionals of the Year in 2021.

During the event, Gao will recount his experience and the concert series’ development during his 22 years at UD through the telling of personal stories and performances of chamber music. The event will also include stories from performers appearing in their Master Players premieres, including cellist Hekun Wu, pianist Elise Yun, saxophonists Valentin Kovalev and Aiwen Zhang, UD faculty bassist Miles brown and UD faculty violinist Guillaume Combet. An AI-generated component will also be featured. The program will include works by Bach, Debussy, Schubert, Shostakovich, Pärt and Connesson.

Tickets are $25 for adults; $20 for seniors and UD faculty, staff, and alumni; and $10 for students. For more information about the event and how to purchase tickets, visit the Master Players website.
