Annual benefit sale features phlox, edible woody plants, and new UDairy Creamery ice cream flavor

The University of Delaware Botanic Gardens (UDBG) invites the University community to shop at the annual spring benefit plant sale, Friday, April 28 and Saturday, April 29. Now in its 31st year, the plant sale offers an exciting selection of perennials, woody plants, houseplants, tropicals and vegetables.

The 2023 featured herbaceous plant is phlox, a native plant quickly adopted in early gardens. Adaptable to many sites with a wide variety of cultural conditions, growth habits and colors, there’s a phlox for every occasion. And with the rising popularity of community gardens and backyard vegetable growing, UDBG is also highlighting a variety of edible woody plants.

As an extra special treat this spring, UDBG partnered with the UDairy Creamery on a new ice cream flavor. UDairy Botanic Berry is made of elderberry ice cream with white chocolate, graham cracker and raspberry swirls. Grab a scoop at the UDairy Creamery flagship location to enjoy while you shop.

The UDBG spring benefit plant sale is an in-person event held on campus at 531 S. College Ave. The sale is open to the public on Friday, April 28, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and on Ag Day, Saturday, April 29, from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
