REP presents Greek tragedy 'Medea'
April 04, 2023
Performing April 13 through April 30
The Resident Ensemble Players (REP) is diving into the classics with its upcoming production of Medea, with performances April 13 through April 30, in the Thompson Theatre at the Roselle Center for the Arts.
Adapted by Ben Power, this harrowing and heart-breaking tale is sure to provoke audiences. This story may be from ancient times, but it’s explorations of power, betrayal, violence and their terrible consequences are still uncomfortably relevant today.
Medea’s love and loyalty to Jason was unquestionable… until he marries another for political gain, leaving Medea alone and banished. Scorned passion and a broken heart lead Medea down a dark path, where her lust for vengeance will come at the ultimate cost.
“This will be the first time the REP has produced a Greek tragedy,” said Producing Artistic Director Steve Tague. “This particular play speaks to a woman’s place in a man’s world. Doesn’t sound that old, does it, at least not in today’s political climate? It also speaks to the life of an outsider, an immigrant that has given up all, but ends up homeless, friendless and without family.”
