Prescription Drug Take Back Day set Oct. 29

Unwanted, expired medications can be dropped off at UD Police Department

The University of Delaware Police Department is participating in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, scheduled from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 29.

During this event, members of the campus community can bring unused, unwanted or expired prescription drugs to the UD Police collection site at 413 Academy St. on the Newark campus.

According to the Drug Enforcement Administration, unneeded prescription medications – those that are old, unwanted or no longer needed – are a public safety issue, often becoming a gateway to addiction.

Unused prescription drugs thrown in the trash can be retrieved and abused or illegally sold. Unused drugs that are flushed contaminate the water supply. Proper disposal of unused drugs saves lives and protects the environment.

This national event is sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators and NASPA—Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education.
