Men's, women's basketball teams learn first-round opponents
The University of Delaware men's and women’s basketball teams learned their destinations for the NCAA Tournament at a special watch party with a boisterous crowd at The Bob on March 13.
The men’s team earned a No. 15 seed in the South Region and will take on second-seeded Villanova in the first round of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament at 2:45 p.m. on Friday, March 18, at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
The women’s team eared a No. 13 seed in the Spokane Region and will take on Maryland in the first round of the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament on Friday, March 18, at Xfinity Center in College Park, Maryland. The game time will be announced later.

Women’s team
Delaware (24-7) earned its fifth trip to the NCAA Tournament in program history after last week's thrilling run to the CAA title in Philadelphia. The Blue Hens won their third CAA title and will play in the Big Dance for the first time since 2013.
The Blue Hens have played Maryland 14 times in program history, with the Terrapins winning each of the first 14 meetings. The most recent matchup came during the 2019-20 season when the two teams met in College Park. Maryland came away with a 99-55 win. Tee Johnson led the Blue Hens with 15 points, while Jasmine Dickey added 14 points and seven rebounds.
Delaware and Maryland are matched up with sixth-seeded Virginia Tech and 12th-seeded Florida Gulf Coast. Also playing in the Spokane Region will be No. 1 seed Stanford taking on No. 16 seed Montana State and sixth-seeded Kansas playing ninth-seeded Georgia Tech.
Men’s team
Delaware (22-12), earned its sixth trip to the NCAA Tournament in program history after last week's thrilling run to the CAA title in Washington, D.C. The Blue Hens won their second CAA title, and will play in the Big Dance for the first time since 2014.
The Blue Hens have played Villanova 14 times in program history, with the Wildcats winning each of the first 14 meetings. The most recent matchup came during the 2019-20 season when the two teams met in Newark, New Jersey, as part of the Never Forget Tribute Classic. Then-No. 20 Villanova defeated UD 78-70 as current Blue Hens Kevin Anderson and Ryan Allen finished with 14 and 10 points, respectively.
Delaware and Villanova are matched up with seventh-seeded Ohio State and 10th-seeded Loyola Chicago. Also playing in Pittsburgh will be No. 4 seed Illinois taking on No. 13 seed Chattanooga and fifth-seeded Houston playing 12th-seeded UAB.
