Grad students and postdocs solving societal challenges

The University of Delaware’s Graduate College is introducing the Spark! Symposium, a new initiative to create opportunities to develop cross-disciplinary communication skills and interactions.

By sharing their research with the UD community and beyond, graduate students and postdocs will show how they are tackling the biggest societal challenges and advancing understanding of the most complex problems.

“We’ve named it the Spark! Symposium because we aim to ignite new conversations, ideas and collaborations,” said Louis Rossi, dean of the Graduate College. “We will do so by bringing together graduate students and postdocs who are exploring some of the greatest challenges of our times using different disciplinary lenses.”

Beginning April 5 with a theme of “Beyond the Tipping Point: Challenges at the Interface of the Environment and Humanity,” from 4-6 p.m. at Vita Nova Restaurant in the Trabant Student Center, five students will make presentations at the first symposium.

• Ashley Paintsil, College of Arts and Sciences, Communication
• Sarah Wells, College of Health Sciences, Epidemiology
• Conner McCrone, College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Plant and Soil Sciences
• Bradie Crandall, College of Engineering, Chemical Engineering
• Anner Paldor, College of Earth, Ocean and Environment, Geological Sciences

Refreshments will be served following the presentations. Space is limited, and advance registration is required by March 30. For further information, please visit: https://bit.ly/UDspark
