Celebrating the accomplishments of women
March is Women’s History Month, and the University of Delaware is offering several opportunities to help you join in celebrating the accomplishments of women.
Activities scheduled on campus this month include the fifth annual Women in Music Concert on March 5; the fourth annual Women Leading Delaware Education Conference on March 9; and 35th annual Women’s History Month Film Series, which continues through March 21. Check the Events calendar for additional events that may be added during the month.
Dress up your online meetings with this special Women’s History Month Zoom background, designed by Christian Derr, senior art director in the Office of Communications and Marketing.
Watch UDaily for upcoming stories about women at UD who are making a difference, such as this article about Sophie Phillips, a graduate student in the Joseph R. Biden, Jr. School of Public Policy and Administration, who is using her platform as Miss Delaware to make connections in the community.
And, if you’d like to learn about the history of women at UD, check out Beneath Thy Guiding Hand: A History of Women at the University of Delaware, which is available online on the University Archives and Records Management website. Written by Carol E. Hoffecker, Richards Professor emerita of history, this book looks at women at UD during the 20th century, beginning with the founding in 1914 of the Women’s College, which, in 1921, joined with Delaware College (then for men only) to form the University of Delaware.
