UD hosts professional learning event for educators in elementary, secondary and higher education
With support from the Delaware Department of Education, the Delaware Academy for School Leadership (DASL) in the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Delaware will host the fourth annual Women Leading Delaware Education Conference on March 9, 2022. The event will be held virtually.
The Women Leading Delaware Education Conference is a networking and professional learning event for teachers and administrators in elementary, secondary and higher education settings. According to Jacquelyn Wilson, director of DASL and assistant professor in UD’s School of Education, the event serves to address issues specific to women and education leadership, as well as to provide a powerful opportunity for current and aspiring leaders to convene for an impactful day of connection, introspection and inspiration.
“Women continue to be disproportionately underrepresented in leadership positions at public schools and school districts, despite constituting the majority of the state’s teachers,” said Wilson, noting that women account for 77% of teachers yet only 25% of district superintendents. “DASL is excited to provide women educators access to leadership coaching, mentorship networks and professional development opportunities that will hopefully provide them with the inspiration to make that next step in their careers.”
The event will feature keynote speakers Catherine Edmonds, deputy superintendent in the Office of Educational Equity in the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, and Kelly Peaks Horner, founder of the Horner Education Consulting Group.
DASL will also invite participants to apply for one of 25 spots in a new learning community called the Delaware Dare to Lead Cohort.
Individuals of all genders and backgrounds may participate. To register or for more informatoin, visit https://www.dasl.udel.edu/women-leading-delaware/.
