Chef Dana Herbert brings his wares to Perkins Student Center
"The King of Cakes" – also known as "The Sugar Daddy" and, more notably at the University of Delaware, alumnus Dana Herbert – is setting up shop on his old stomping grounds. For all of students’ exam week cravings, between class snacks and celebratory sweets, Herbert's Desserts by Dana will be there to satisfy your sweet tooth.
Desserts by Dana is Perkins Student Center's new pop-up and will be open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. for the entire spring semester. Herbert's menu features a variety of sweet treats, including cupcakes, macaroons, brownies and much more.
Join us for a soft opening of Desserts By Dana and enjoy a sweet treat in Perkins Student Center from 2-4 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 10. Make sure to stop by for delicious dessert samples, a DJ and the opporutnity to meet the chef himself, Dana Herbert. Check out the Instagram @dessertsbydanaatUD for pictures that will leave you no choice but to drop what you’re doing and run to Academy Street.
If you think Chef Herbert looks familiar, it’s not because you’ve seen the 1998 graduate in any of your recent classes; it’s because you’ve seen him on TV. Since leaving UD with his bachelor’s degree in hotel, restaurant and institutional management, Herbert competed in and won TLC’s Cake Boss: The Next Great Baker, earning him an invite to work with Buddy Valastro at Carlo’s Bakery in Hoboken. Not only does this mean that Herbert can be seen in multiple episodes of Cake Boss – keep your cool, Cake Boss fans – but he has also appeared on many national and international media outlets throughout his career.
Herbert says he is beyond excited to sweeten up UD Dining and share his baking with a new generation of Blue Hens. Be sure to check out Desserts by Dana the next time you find yourself in need of a royal treat.
