Special edition UD Magazine spotlights statewide commitment and impact
The University of Delaware has many distinguishing features, but perhaps none more notable than the two words inherent to its mission and identity: of Delaware.
As the state’s flagship institution of higher education, the University of Delaware exists to cultivate knowledge in Delaware, for Delaware. Its economic impact alone speaks to astounding success: an annual economic footprint of $3.2 billion; more than 26,000 jobs; and an additional $1.2 billion earned by alumni residing in the state, thanks to their UD education.
But beyond the statistics are stories — of people and programs that bring the University’s mission to life and help create a stronger, healthier, cleaner, greener, more vibrant, innovative and educated state.
A select sampling of these stories can be found in a special edition UD Magazine, designed to celebrate the University’s enduring impact and commitment to Delaware.
Online and in select mailboxes, the issue highlights:
Twenty-six examples of in-state impact, from A to Z.
The many ways UD works to strengthen, enhance, diversify and support K-12 education, including its work through the College Readiness Scholars Institute.
The multifaceted efforts designed to protect Delaware’s natural resources and preserve its coastal beauty.
The nearly 200 health sciences students who helped local hospitals at the pandemic’s height.
Various examples of statewide service, made possible by the Institute for Public Administration, which celebrates its 50-year anniversary in 2023.
The Associate in Arts Program and its investments in student support.
A Q&A with self-described “UD concierge” and 1987 alumna Tracy Shickel, who works to grow innovation on the STAR Campus through her role as associate vice president of corporate engagement.
This special edition of UD Magazine was mailed to in-state alumni donors, whose philanthropy helps fuel much of the work highlighted in the publication.
