Newark Police report person struck by BB gun near campus

Editor's note: This article was updated at 11:50 a.m., April 4, based on a press release issued by Newark Police.

Newark Police reported that a person was struck by what was originally thought to be a BB gun around 11 p.m., Sunday, April 3, near the intersection of East Main Street and South College Avenue.

According to Newark Police, the female victim said she was walking on East Main Street when a vehicle drove by, and she saw two males lean out of the vehicle and fire what were believed to be multiple BBs at her. She was struck once in the leg and did not require medical treatment.

Based on the victim's statements and area surveillance video, police identified the vehicle, went to the registered address and contacted the male driver. They also located the weapon involved, which was determined to be a splatter ball gun, which shoots small gel water pellets.

The investigation continues, while warrants are sought for the suspects.

Anyone with additional information on the incident is asked to contact Officer Saitis of the Newark Police at 302-366-7100, ext. 3452 or jsaitis@newark.de.us. or University of Delaware Police at 302-831-UDPD (8373).
