Patrick Ogden begins term as president of IACLEA
Patrick Ogden, associate vice president and chief of police at the University of Delaware, is the new president of the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA), recognized as the leading authority for campus public safety. He was sworn in at the association’s annual conference, held virtually June 25.
IACLEA is the world’s largest professional association devoted to excellence in campus public safety and law enforcement, with more than 4,200 members representing over a thousand institutions of higher education in 11 countries. Established in 1958, IACLEA has a global network of experts who share best practices, solve problems and set standards for the profession.
“It is my sincere honor to serve the University of Delaware as chief of police and the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators as its new president,” Ogden said.
“I am humbled and excited to continue my service to IACLEA. I have been blessed with amazing opportunities to serve in various leadership roles over the past three decades, and I will use my experience and enthusiasm to give back to this wonderful association.
“Now more than ever – at this pivotal time for policing in this country, it is privilege to lead this organization that is devoted to ensuring that the members of our profession adhere to the highest standards,” he said.
Ogden is the second UD official to lead this international organization. Doug Tuttle, retired UD director of public safety, served as IACLEA president from 1995-96.
Also at the meeting, the University of Delaware Police Department was awarded joint reaccreditation by IACLEA and the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). IACLEA accreditation signifies an agency’s ongoing commitment to excellence and state-of-the-art performance in every aspect of its operations. The standards guide the recruitment, selection, training and professional development of agency personnel and overall agency operations. The UD Police Department is the only police department in Delaware accredited by IACLEA.
A lifelong Delawarean, Ogden joined the UD community as director of public safety in 2009, after serving more than 20 years with the Delaware State Police, where he held a variety of operational and administrative positions.
As UD’s chief of police, he oversees 54 state-certified police officers, 10 dispatchers for UD’s 911 Center, 20 security officers, 50 student cadets and 50 student emergency medical technicians who staff the department’s Emergency Care Unit (UDECU).
