Occupational safety training on UD campus
August 30, 2021
Nationally-recognized safety training offered through UD PCS partnership
The University of Delaware’s Division of Professional and Continuing Studies (UD PCS) is partnering with the Delaware Valley Safety Council (DVSC) to offer nationally-recognized occupational safety training programs on the UD Newark campus this fall.
The intensive five-day Certified Occupational Safety Specialist (COSS) and Certificate for Occupational Safety Managers (COSM) courses are held Sept. 20-24 and Oct. 25-29, respectively, at the UD PCS classroom location at 501 South College Ave., Newark.
Both the COSS and COSM courses, as well as the SAF Frontline Safety Training course, are also offered online.
Taught by COSS-certified OSHA Outreach trainers, these programs equip professionals with the core competencies of occupational safety and health. Participants learn to recognize hazards, understand and interpret OSHA requirements and effectively manage workplace safety and health programs.
The COSS program is designed as an entry-level course as well as a refresher for experienced safety professionals from a wide range of industries including construction, manufacturing, transportation, energy and utilities, public safety and security, healthcare, food, government and human resources.
Participants who successfully complete the programs earn the nationally-recognized COSS or COSM designation through the certification exam held on the final day of class.
UD alumni receive a 15% discount when enrolling in any of the UD-DVSC-sponsored courses. Veterans and active members of the military, as well as General Building Contractors Association (GBCA) members, receive a 15% discount when registering for COSS or COSM.
