New features added to popular campus safety app

LiveSafe redesign features significant content updates

LifeSafe, the smartphone safety app launched at the University of Delaware in 2014, has received a new design and significant content updates.

This app, which has more than 13,000 users, helps University of Delaware Police prevent crime and better respond to incidents by enabling UD students, faculty and staff to directly and seamlessly contact UD Police for a range of safety issues.

Incorporating key smartphone technology components, such as GPS-location, video and text capabilities, LiveSafe has resulted in UD Police receiving more than 1,100 tips on issues ranging from serious crimes to safety concerns. All tips are immediately acted upon by UD Police.

The redesign and updates include a new scrolling home screen, making it easier to access safety and University resources. In light of the current pandemic, a new COVID-19 information card links directly to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and to UD’s coronavirus website, giving students, faculty and staff the latest updates at their fingertips.

These new features augment the app’s core functions. Among them are the ability to submit tips quickly via text with picture and video attachments, live chat with UD Police, a comprehensive safety map that pinpoints incidents on or near campus and peer-to-peer location monitoring with a concurrent group chat feature. Users also can receive important broadcast notifications sent by UD Police.

LiveSafe is available to the University of Delaware community to download for free on iPhone and Android devices at iTunes or Google Play.
