Rare book specialist Rebecca Romney to speak at Friends of the UD Library Annual Dinner

The University of Delaware community is invited to join rare book specialist Rebecca Romney at the Friends of the University of Delaware Library 2020 Annual Dinner on March 24 as she shares how she has engaged a wide audience with the basics of book collecting and the rare book trade.

From starring on television to posting on social media, from co-founding a book-collecting prize to writing a book on books, Romney’s outreach attempts have been varied and experimental. During the event, she will explore the ethical implications of these experiences, and provide a candid account of the success and failures of these experiments.

Romney has built a career on building bridges between the small world of rare books and the larger cultural universe. Since 2011, she has appeared on the History Channel’s TV series Pawn Stars as a rare book specialist and a fan-favorite expert. She is co-founder of the rare book company Type Punch Matrix, and co-author of Printer’s Error: Irreverent Stories from Book History. Most recently, she appeared in the 2019 documentary The Booksellers.

The event will be held at the Deerfield Country Club in Newark, Delaware. The event begins at 6 p.m. with a cocktail hour, followed by dinner at 7 p.m. The evening will conclude with a question-and-answer session with Romney. Please register to attend by Tuesday, March 17.
