Cooking classes for students taught by Dining Services’ chefs
University of Delaware students are invited to participate in fun, hands-on cooking classes led by Dining Services' chefs this fall semester. Basic Pasta Sauces will be held on Thursday, Oct. 10, and Cake Decorating on Tuesday, Nov. 19.
Depending on which class students choose, students will leave with a better understanding of cooking basics related to each theme. The classes will take place at the Caesar Rodney Fresh Food Company from 2 - 4 p.m.
Several Dining Services’ chefs will teach the classes including Jorell Wallace, sous chef at Pencader Dining Hall; Stephanie Haines, lead baker at Pencader Dining Hall; and Melissa Ringgold, lead baker at the Caesar Rodney Fresh Food Company. The chefs will also be available to answer any cooking-related questions.
Student participating in Basic Pasta Sauces will learn to prepare two sauces, a garden fresh tomato marinara and a creamy alfredo sauce. Cake Decorating will cover the basics of coloring and mixing icings, piping and other decorating techniques. Participants will also get to enjoy a generous taste of the food prepared during the classes.
Classes are free for any UD student, space is limited and advanced registration is required. The maximum capacity for each class is limited to 20 students. Students will be standing, cooking and working for most of the classes so they should wear comfortable closed-toe shoes, a long sleeve shirt to protect their arms and tie long hair back. All ingredients, recipes and cooking tools will be provided. Each student will also receive a complimentary Dining Services' Cooking 101 baseball cap to commemorate their participation.
