Student-athletes earn highest GPA during 2018-19 academic year
For the University of Delaware Blue Hens, the phrase "Inspiring Greatness Together," is a mantra that permeates through every facet, including the classroom.
For UD's 600-plus student-athletes, that’s exactly what they did this semester achieving record-breaking success and earning national notoriety.
Some of the accomplishments include:
- A record breaking average GPA of 3.140 among student-athletes for the 2018-2019 academic year
- A record breaking average GPA of 3.144 among student-athletes for the 2019 spring semester
- 17 out of the 21 teams (81%) earned over a 3.000 GPA for the academic year
- 41% of student-athletes earned Dean’s List recognition
- For the first time, all teams earned over a 2.700 GPA
- Six straight semester with over a 3.100 average GPA among student-athletes
“We hold our student-athletes to a high standard and they’ve done a tremendous job of continuing to raise the bar each semester,” said Tim Morrissey, director of student services. “The growth we’ve made in our campus partners have truly allowed our student-athletes to raise their academic game to another level and these numbers and accomplishments are a testament to the hard work of so many not only by our student-athletes, but our athletic department staff and so many across the University of Delaware."
The Blue Hens football program also earned the Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association (FCS ADA) Academic Progress Rate Award for the most improved score in the Colonial Athletic Association in 2017-18.
