Cantley served as associate dean of students at UD since 2014

Adam Cantley has been appointed dean of students for the University of Delaware effective Friday, Feb. 1, Vice President for Student Life José-Luis Riera announced. Cantley, interim dean of students since September 2017, has served as associate dean of students at UD since 2014.

In his role as dean of students, Cantley will lead efforts to enhance the UD student experience by partnering campuswide to provide support services that promote personal development, academic success and overall student wellbeing. As a member of the Student Life senior leadership team and vice president’s cabinet, the dean of students directs also oversees the Office of Student Conduct and Student Behavioral Consultation Team, and assists in managing campus crisis communications.

The Office of the Dean of Students (ODS) serves as the central resource for UD students, families, faculty, and staff when navigating complex issues of the student experience. ODS provides advocacy, support and resources toward students’ holistic wellbeing, and facilitates partnerships throughout UD that cultivate a supportive campus culture and elevate the student voice. ODS efforts include helping students overcome financial insecurity, navigate leaves of absence, and connect with resources that support their success.

“Throughout his various roles, Adam has maintained a steadfast record of empathetic and transparent leadership and has supported UD students through a wide range of crises, concerns, and community-building efforts,” Riera said. “The dean of students serves as a key leader in the development of strategic initiatives in Student Life, and we are very fortunate to welcome Adam into this position.”

Said Cantley, “I am excited to continue working with students and colleagues at the University of Delaware. It is energizing to be part of a community that values student belonging and success."

Cantley joined UD in 2011 as an assistant director for student involvement within the University Student Centers, advising and overseeing the work of fraternity and sorority communities prior to the creation of the Fraternity and Sorority Leadership and Learning unit. With bachelor’s and master’s degrees from West Virginia University and a master’s degree from Oklahoma State University in college student development, Cantley is currently working toward a UD doctoral degree in educational leadership. He is also active in several professional associations, including the Higher Education Case Managers Association, Mentors in Violence Prevention, Response Ability Program, ACPA College Student Educators International, Association of Fraternity and Sorority Advisors and National Association of Student Personnel Administrators, and is on the Board of Directors for the Northeast Greek Leadership Association and Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity.
