The block of Academy Street between East Delaware and Lovett avenues will be closed to vehicular traffic and parking from Monday morning, Jan. 6, 2020, through Friday evening, Jan. 10. In addition, East Delaware Avenue will be reduced to a single lane during the same period.

The traffic restrictions are because of construction work at the site of the University of Delaware’s life sciences building addition, which will involve use of a large crane near the intersection of East Delaware Avenue and Academy Street.

Vehicle detour signs will be posted. The sidewalks on the south side of East Delaware Avenue and portions of the sidewalks along Academy Street will be closed for safety. Pedestrian detour signs will be posted to keep individuals out of the work zone.

Normal traffic and pedestrian patterns will resume on all roads when the work is complete, on or about Friday, Jan. 10.

For safety reasons, East Hall will be closed from Jan. 6-10 while the crane is in operation. UDIT-University Media Services (UMS), normally based in East Hall, will continue to provide service to the campus throughout the week from temporary locations. Technicians can be reached as usual through UD webforms or by phone. Some remote capabilities may be unavailable and response time may be affected. UMS will make every effort to respond and resolve any a/v issues as quickly as possible

Because of the Academy Street closure, the service drive behind Spencer Lab, Colburn Lab, DuPont Hall and Evans Hall will be closed at the Center for Biomedical and Brain Imaging (CBBI) and should be accessed from the parking area at the intersection of Academy Street and Lovett Avenue, between Colburn Lab and Drake Hall. A construction flagger will direct traffic at the detour during the closure. Please use caution on Academy Street south of Lovett since oversize trucks with escort vehicles and flaggers will be driving on Park Place and Academy Street to access the closed portion of Academy Street.
