Applications open until Sept. 15 for two division advisory boards
University of Delaware students who are interested in engaging in dialogue about the campus experience are invited to apply for one of two advisory boards that meet monthly with UD administrators. Interested students of any major or year, including graduate students, can expect to:
- identify areas of success and improvement in the out-of-classroom experience
- provide advice and input to administrators for advancing equity and inclusion, deepening student learning, and driving holistic student development at UD
- develop problem solving and collaboration skills across generations, cultures and lived experiences
Both advisory boards are convened through the Division of Student Life. One, the Student Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Board, provides recommendations and feedback to the UD administration specifically around campus climate and culture, while the other Student Life Advisory Board considers a variety of matters related to the division and its units. The boards are designed as an opportunity for perspective building and information sharing, rather than a substitute for working through existing channels when urgent concerns arise.
"This is a clear and direct way for students to share personal stories, participate in workshops, build relationships with peers, and examine how individuals within this university understand themselves and understand others," said Phoebe Balascio, a member of the first Student Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Board. "The intent is to advance an actively-engaged campus community and empowered student body."
Applications are open for both boards through Sept. 15. Students, faculty and staff can nominate someone for a position and students may also apply directly.
An information session will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 10, from 5-6:30 p.m., in room 209-211 of the Trabant University Center. At the information session, students interested in either board can meet staff and students currently involved with those boards.
