Police seek public’s assistance in identifying suspects in early morning assault
The Newark Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying two suspects in an assault that occurred around 12:52 a.m., Sunday, Sept. 2, in the area of 45 East Main St.
Newark officers on patrol in the area saw a man with a laceration over his eye blocking traffic. The 31-year-old man who was highly intoxicated told them he had just been attacked by several unknown persons. He was later transported to Christiana Hospital for treatment.
With the use of surveillance cameras, officers observed the victim walking on East Main Street, going into Newark Parking Division Lot #2, where he was followed by a group of unknown men. One suspect can be seen walking up and striking the victim in the back of the head, knocking him to the ground. A second suspect then can be seen punching and kicking the victim. During the assault, several other men and women can be seen with the two suspects.
The first suspect is described as a black male wearing a yellow shirt and blue jeans. The second suspect is described as a black male wearing a black shirt and dark pants.
