September 06, 2018
Music instruction offered for all ages
A variety of music instruction programs are available this fall through the University of Delaware’s Community Music School (UDCMS), the outreach program of the Department of Music that has offered a wide variety of options to people of all ages for more than 30 years.
This fall will be the inaugural year for the Delaware Youth Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Lauren Reynolds, assistant professor of music and director of concert bands at UD. This is an opportunity for outstanding high school musicians from the greater Delaware area to rehearse and perform exciting, high-quality wind band literature. Those interested in participation should register for an audition on Sept. 8 or 9.
UDCMS also will offer private study instruction for children, teens and adults on more than 20 instruments.
In addition, musical instruction is available for children as young as 4 years old. Music For Young Minds, an early childhood music program that is filling up fast for this semester, provides music instruction for children from birth through age 6.
- Suzuki guitar, violin and piano for students ages 4-12. These include private and group lessons, and a waitlist may apply; inquire for details.);
- Guitar Ensemble;
- three different Children's Choirs; and
- the Neuro Notes Parkinson's Choir.
All registered UDCMS students are eligible to join the school’s free Saturday music theory classes, which are also open for a nominal fee to non-UDCMS students.
Instruction at UDCMS is affordable, and the school offers several different kinds of discounts. There are opportunities for several recitals during the year, as well as performance opportunities with collegiate musical groups and at various off-campus venues.
