Delaware Gov. John Carney - joined by University of Delaware President Dennis Assanis,  former Vice President Joe Biden and other leaders - signed the Beau Biden Gun Violence Prevention Act on Monday, April 30 at the Biden Institute on the UD campus.

The Beau Biden Act, passed unanimously by the Delaware General Assembly, will help restrict access to firearms for those who mental health professionals believe present a danger to themselves or others. The act, which was House Bill 302, mirrors legislation championed by the late Beau Biden in 2013, when he was serving as Delaware’s attorney general.

Also in attendance was Jill Biden, Ashley Biden, Delaware Lt. Gov. Bethany Hall-Long, Patricia Dailey Lewis, executive director, Beau Biden Foundation, and Delaware Rep. David Bentz. Joe Biden, Jill Biden and Bentz are UD graduates. Hall-Long is a UD professor.
