Elizabeth Reed named interim director of Office of Disability Support Services, ADA compliance coordinator
Elizabeth Reed has been appointed interim director and ADA compliance coordinator for the University of Delaware’s Office of Disability Support Services (DSS), Carol Henderson, vice provost for diversity, announced. Her appointment was effective December 1.
Reed, who previously served as employee accommodation coordinator in DSS, succeeds Annie Jannarone, who has resigned.
“We appreciate Elizabeth Reed’s willingness to serve the institution in this crucial area,” said Henderson. “Her skills, respect and appreciation for individuals with disabilities will be a great asset to those under her leadership. The University of Delaware is fortunate to have her.”
Working with campus partners, DSS facilitates accommodations for students with disabilities to eliminate or minimize any barriers to success. This includes information and services, assistive technology and interpreter assistance for academic purposes. The office supports the University’s Center for Disability Studies and its new Spectrum Scholars program, which provides a welcoming space for undergraduate students with autism that enhances their ability to thrive in academic environments and campus life.
DSS also works with employees to determine reasonable accommodations to a job or work environment that allows an individual with a disability or medical condition the ability to perform the essential functions of a job, apply for a job, and have equal access to benefits, rights and privileges available in the workplace.
DSS provides educational resources and consultation to the University community across a variety of topics related to accessibility and inclusion of people with disabilities.
Reed has 30 years of experience assessing the functional impact of disabilities for individuals in the employment and academic settings. She began serving as UD’s accommodation coordinator in January 2016. Prior to working at UD, Reed was in similar roles for Devereux, Return to Work Services and Travelers Insurance Company. She has also served as an expert witness in the capacity of a vocational rehabilitation consultant. Reed holds master’s degrees in rehabilitation counseling and human resource administration.
