UD freshman guard Daly named to CAA All-Tournament team

University of Delaware freshman guard Ryan Daly was named to the Colonial Athletic Association All-Tournament team following two outstanding performances over the weekend at the conference men's basketball championship.

Daly averaged 25.5 points and 10.5 rebounds while posting a pair of double-doubles in the Blue Hens’ two games, shooting 19 of 35 (54.3 percent) from the field including 7 of 15 from three-point range and handing out nine assists.

The freshman sensation recorded game-highs of 27 points, 11 rebounds and a career-high six assists during Friday’s 81-76 win over Hofstra in the opening round of the tournament. He finished 10 of 19 from the field and knocked down three triples while playing all 40 minutes, and sealed the victory by hitting two free throws with four seconds remaining.

Daly again led all players with 24 points and 10 boards in the 91-82 loss to top-seeded University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) on Saturday, going 9 of 16 from the floor and hitting four three-pointers while again playing the entire game.

Daly notched his fifth and sixth double-doubles of the season, and reached the 20-point mark for the 10th and 11th times on the year. He finished the year by averaging a team-high 16.0 points and 7.4 rebounds per game, and shattered the UD freshman single-season records for points and rebounds.

Daly, the only player named to the All-Tournament team who did not play in the championship game, was joined on the squad by C.J. Bryce, Devontae Cacok and Denzel Ingram of UNCW, and Jarrell Brantley and Joe Chealey of the College of Charleston. Bryce was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player.

Daly becomes the fifth Blue Hen to earn CAA All-Tournament team honors, and is the second player in UD history to earn conference All-Tournament accolades as a freshman, along with Brian Pearl, who was named to the 1992 North Atlantic Conference All-Tournament team.
