UD field hockey ranked No. 10 in latest national poll
The University of Delaware field hockey team continues to receive national attention, as the Blue Hens moved up two spots to No. 10 in the latest Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) coaches poll.
UD (8-2) went 2-0 on the week, with wins over No. 20 Albany and at Lafayette. The Hens collected 468 points in the rankings.
After emerging as the last undefeated team in the nation, Connecticut (9-0) claimed the No. 1 ranking with 860 points and 14 first place votes while North Carolina (8-2) jumped three spots to No. 2 with 859 points and 18 first place votes. Duke (8-1; 848 points; 10 first place votes), Syracuse (8-1; 842 points; five first place votes) and Penn State (9-1; 718) rounded out the top five.
The next poll will be announced on Tuesday, Oct. 4. The poll is voted on by NFHCA member coaches and has no bearing on selection into the NCAA tournament.
The three-time reigning conference champion Blue Hens open Colonial Athletic Association action this weekend by traveling to No. 19 James Madison for a 6 p.m. start Friday before heading to William and Mary for a 1 p.m. start Sunday.
